DSL Training

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Training

I devise and deliver DSL training that meets the needs of the delegates who attend. I do this by encouraging a fully interactive and practical day which covers everything you need to know in order to carry out the role of DSL in your setting. The DSL training that I deliver is certainly not death by PowerPoint and is an opportunity for delegates to share experiences and learn from myself and each other. DSLs leave my training feeling empowered, inspired and equipped to take on this demanding but exciting role within school.

Please contact me to discuss specific DSL training needs such as clusters of schools or groups of DSLs requiring training.

This course is suitable for new and experienced DSLs.

Training will cover:

  • Signs, symptoms and categories of abuse
  • How to determine appropriate responses to concerns
  • Continuum of Need
  • Early Help, CAF and referrals to Children’s Social Care
  • Safer Recruitment/Single Central Record
  • How to create and maintain a culture of safeguarding
  • Developing Policies, Procedures and Practice
  • Record Keeping
  • Case Studies and specific advice
  • Information about Specific Safeguarding Issues such as Prevent, Online Safety, Peer on Peer Abuse, Honour Based Violence etc.

The training is a full, busy day starting at 9.30 and finishing at 4.45. Upon completion of an evaluation questionnaire delegates will receive a certificate which is currently valid for 2 years (according to KCSIE 2016).
