Janet Crossley

My name is Janet Crossley and I joined Schools Safeguarding in September 2019. My early career was involved with fraud investigation before going into education over 20 years ago. My first role in education was as Head of Administration in a Further Education College, before making the move into teaching. I qualified as a teacher and began teaching in the college. In 2008, I took up the role of Head of Student Services which included safeguarding.

I knew from that point that safeguarding was the way I wanted my career to progress and having developed that role became Head of Safeguarding and Prevent.

I have worked at both operational and strategic levels representing Further Education in Lancashire as a member of the Lancashire Safeguarding Partnership Board. In recent years I took the opportunity of a secondment to the Local Authority working in a Home Office funded post to support schools understanding and implementing the Prevent Duty. That opportunity gave me greater understanding of the extremism and radicalisation agenda and how individuals are drawn into terrorism. I am passionate about sharing this information with schools to support staff in understanding the requirements of the legislation.

When I am not working I love spending time with my family and friends, going on holidays, and I even manage to fit in the odd yoga class.
